This report presents findings from the 2022 Cities and International Engagement Survey conducted by the Melbourne Centre for Cities at the University of Melbourne and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. The survey was completed by 59 city governments globally focusing on the capacity, methods and impacts of city diplomacy, as well as identifying major issues for international engagement, how city diplomacy informed COVID-19 response and national–local relations on foreign policy. As the third iteration of this survey, the results are compared with previous data to identify evolving trends in city diplomatic practice.
