The development of this timeline has been informed by a literature review of affordance theory. The timeline references selected papers/theorists from a range of fields (including environmental psychology, philosophy, technology, HCI, children's outdoor environments, engineering, product design, architecture and interior design) which have been relevant to shaping a definition for affordances in the field of learning environments. The timeline also includes references to learning environments papers which discusse affordance-based approaches prior to 1979, when the term affordances was coined by Gibson.
