People living with HIV-HBV co-infection (n=39) were recruited. Inclusion criteria were HIV antibody positive, HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) and/or HBV DNA positive on two occasions at least 6 months apart or HBsAg and/or HBV DNA positive with HBV core IgG antibody, 18 years or older and ART naïve. Demographic, clinical and pathology laboratory data were collected at the time of liver biopsy; immunological and virological parameters measured in plasma and liver.
