In an in vitro model, we infected an HBV-infected hepatocyte cell line with HIV, followed by interferon-gamma with Pc3SK4 (TLR agonist). HBV-infected cell lines produced significantly more CXCL10 than uninfected cell lines and this significantly increased in the presence of an increasing multiplicity of HIV infection. The antiretroviral agents efavirenz and raltegravir both significantly reduced eGFP expression and CXCL10 production in both the HBV-producing AD38 and the parent HepG2 hepatocyte cell lines.
